Portuguese President ends visit to Angola
Luanda, ANGOLA, March 11 - The Portuguese President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, met last Saturday, in Luanda, with the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, a gathering that served for the Portuguese statesman to bid farewell to the Angolan counterpart.,
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who was set to leave for his country on Saturday, arrived in Angola last Tuesday (5 March), as part of a state visit that took him to the southern provinces of Huíla and Benguela.
Last Saturday's meeting with the President João Lourenço is the second between the two persoalities, in three days.
Last Wednesday, the two Statesmen granted a joint press conference at the end of a private meeting.
Visit to the Agri-food Laboratory
Before going to the Presidential Palace, the Portuguese Head of State visited the Central Agri-food Food Laboratory of Luanda, an institution that has the Portuguese partnership.
In the laboratory, focused on analysis of food safety, soils, fertilizers and agricultural corrections, Marcelo de Sousa described the institution as a guarantee of rigour and ensured that Portugal has embraced the project.
In the framework of bilateral cooperation in the field of Agriculture, the Portuguese statesman assured that there will be a complete transfer of knowledge and a link for development.
Currently, Angola has four laboratories of this type, located in the provinces of Luanda, Cunene, Cabinda and Benguela.
With 54 employees, Luanda's Agri-Food Central Laboratory is also tasked with verifying and controlling production and farming processing systems.
Meeting with Cardinal Alexandre do Nascimento
Meanwhile, the Portuguese President went to the Episcopal Palace, where he had a brief meeting with Cardinal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento, former president of the Episcopal Conference of Angola and Sao Tome (1990-1997).
At the end of the meeting, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa considered the prelate a "great figure" of the Catholic Church of Angola, in particular, someone that contributes a lot to the construction of the country's future.
As part of the visit programme, the Portuguese statesman visited the National Museum of Military History in Luanda.
